Every rupee, tracked for you
An Android app that reads your bank SMS and UPI alerts and turns them into a clear picture of your spending. Nothing leaves your phone.

The payments you forget
A bus ticket, a rickshaw ride, a few things from the corner shop. Each one is too small to note down, and every one of them still sends you an SMS.

One payment, one entry
Pay ₹249 for lunch on Google Pay and your phone gets two messages about it. Spend Tracker counts it once.
Your bank sends an SMS.
Recorded within a second, filed under Food.
Google Pay pings you too.
It lands once, and transfers between your own accounts stay out of your totals.
Your week, at a glance
And when you need more
- Budgets per category
- Set ₹3,000 for food and get a heads-up at 80%.
- Split with friends
- Their UPI payback is matched by name and ticked off.
- Month in review
- A swipeable story of where your month went.
- Home screen widget
- Today's spend against your limit, without opening the app.
- Unusual payment alerts
- A big first payment to someone new, or one at 2 am.
- CSV backup
- Export everything; import it on your next phone.
Nothing leaves your phone
Spend Tracker doesn't ask for internet access, so it can't upload anything. Your payments live in a database on the phone.
- Android cloud backup is off, so payments aren't copied anywhere.
- App lock asks for your fingerprint or face, and blanks the app in the recent-apps screen.
- CSV export only happens when you ask, to a place you choose.

Is it really free?
Yes. It's free and open source under the MIT licence: no ads, no account, no subscription. The code is on GitHub.
Which phones does it work on?
Android 8.0 or newer. iPhones don't let apps read SMS or other apps' notifications, which is how the tracking works, so there's no iOS version.
Which banks and apps does it understand?
Alerts from HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, Bank of Baroda and Jio Payments Bank, card spends, and notifications from Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, CRED and more. Other banks often work too; if yours doesn't, open an issue on GitHub with a sample SMS, numbers blanked out.
Why does Play Protect block the install?
Google blocks apps installed from a file if they ask for SMS access, because scam apps abuse it. Pause "Scan apps with Play Protect" in the Play Store, install, then switch it straight back on. Installing from a computer over USB also works.
A permission is greyed out. What now?
Android 13 and newer restrict apps installed from a file. Open Settings, Apps, Spend Tracker, tap the menu in the top-right corner, choose "Allow restricted settings", then grant the permission again.
Does it upload my payments anywhere?
No. The app has no internet permission, so it can't. Payments are stored in a database on your phone, and Android cloud backup is switched off for it.
Will transfers between my own accounts count as spending?
No. When a debit in one account and a credit in another share a UPI reference, both are marked as a self transfer and left out of your totals. Card bill payments are handled the same way.
How do I move to a new phone?
Export a CSV backup from the menu, save it anywhere you like, and import it on the new phone. Payments already there are skipped, and your category choices come back with them.
Start trackingtoday
Install it, allow SMS access, and the app reads the last 90 days of bank alerts straight away. New payments appear the moment the SMS lands.
Choose what Spend Tracker reads. Everything stays on this phone.
Needs SMS access and notification access, to catch Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm too.
